An orphan faces off against a bank robber who wants a book on the art of hypnotism that she stole from her school library. Fantasy adventure, starring Raffey Cassidy, Dominic Monaghan, Lesley Manville, Emily Watson and Joan Collins
Clunkingly old-fashioned, but also cute and kinda fun, this magical fantasy stars newcomer Raffey Cassidy (Tomorrowland) as Molly, a young orphan girl who stumbles across an ancient book on hypnotism, and discovers that she has the uncanny knack of putting its theories into practice. She uses her powers to kid Britain's telly audience into believing that she's a pre-teen singing sensation. Meanwhile, Dominic Monaghan's hiss-boo baddie bids to get hold of Molly's book for more nefarious purposes. Boasting more Brit-stars than you can shake a stick at (Emily Watson, Celia Imrie, Sadie Frost, Omid Djalili, Anne-Marie Duff and a cameo from Joan Collins, whose couple of scenes look like they've been phoned in from another planet), Molly Moon is easy to criticise but hard to hate. It's corny, but it also represents an ideal fantasy fulfilment for pre-teen girls.
