Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Made in Spain but voiced in "American", this space-race cartoon is fast-paced, fun and shamelessly rooted in the notion of the importance of family. It may lack the finesse and charm of animation from Pixar, Disney or DreamWorks, but it's a decent yarn for younger kids who want something to watch on a rainy day or school holiday. The plot has a power-mad energy mogul bidding to claim the Moon and its minerals by destroying all trace of the original 1969 lunar landing, including the flag planted by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Out to stop him are an ageing ex-astronaut, his estranged young grandson and a lizard, the type of cute, kiddie-friendly creature that film-makers shoehorn in to tales like this. There are some nice in-jokes to keep accompanying adults happy, too. Entranced youngsters will need no such sweeteners.
