Though it surfed in on a tsunami of negative publicity, The Emoji Movie isn't quite as awful as you might think, and its shabby plot and unexceptional design will probably annoy adults more than the youngsters the film is primarily aimed at. The story, such as it is, centres on a "meh" emoji who can't "meh", so sets out (via blatant plugs for Candy Crush and Spotify apps) to get reprogrammed so that he can fulfil his sole purpose in life. Sir Patrick Stewart, stalwart thespian and former captain of the Starship Enterprise, voices a poop emoji. Which sort of says it all, really.
