Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

In spite of its penury, this typical 1950s British crime quickie - about an escaped convict who unwittingly assumes the identity of a spy - is curiously engaging. It's not Emrys Jones's plight that holds the attention, but the fact that baffled inspector John Horsley is faced with more crooks than he can shake a stick at, forcing him to play a waiting game until the traitors show their hand. Although director John Gilling throws in a few Cornish coastal views, he's mostly confined to unconvincing sets, though the cheapskate look only adds to the charm.
