Fantasy comedy starring Ben Stiller. Larry Daley, night guard at the New York museum where exhibits come to life after dark, has to travel to the British Museum in London to consult an ancient pharaoh who holds the secret to the magic.
In this third film in the series, New York's Natural History Museum night guard Ben Stiller comes to the British Museum to discover more about the ancient curse that brings museum exhibits to life at night. With his cohort of historical characters from previous films, Stiller must also deal with Rebel Wilson as a suspicious guard and Dan Stevens as a rampaging Sir Lancelot, not to mention his wayward teenage son (Skyler Gisando). Robin Williams, Steve Coogan, Owen Wilson and Ricky Gervais are as funny as ever, while Rami Malek as Ahkmenrah acts his pharaoh father Ben Kingsley right off the screen. However, eight years have taken a toll on this frisky children's franchise, and the loss of its original writers shows - director Shawn Levy must rely instead on a peeing monkey and Stiller in a dual role as a Neanderthal to wring some laughs from the material. But this is worth watching for some stellar cameos, a superb supporting cast (including Williams and Mickey Rooney in their final film performances) and wonderful views of beloved museums.
