Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge

The pirate's life continues for Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) here, as he helps Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), the son of his former shipmate Will (Orlando Bloom), find the fabled Trident of Poseidon. On their tails is Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), an undead sailor with a score to settle. The fifth film in the seafaring fantasy series is a reboot of sorts, setting up new characters on a fun adventure. Chases and elaborate set pieces take precedence over plot, but most of the action scenes are well put together and entertaining. Key to the enjoyment is the return of Cap'n Jack, whose misadventures keep the laughs coming. He's also met with a genuinely creepy villain in Bardem, and the returning Geoffrey Rush gets the film's most interesting subplot. Not the best in the franchise, but far from the worst, this is a reminder of why Depp's Keith Richard-inspired creation is such an enduring cinema icon.
