Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

This feel-good charmer follows the true journey of superstar wrestler Paige (an electrifying Florence Pugh) from her humble beginnings in Norwich. Treading the familiar Rocky road, working-class Paige catches the eye of a WWE talent scout (Vince Vaughn on blazing form) who takes her to train in America. The move complicates her relationship with her brother Zak (Jack Lowden), who's desperate for the same opportunity. Written/directed by Stephen Merchant with gritty freshness and executive produced by Dwayne Johnson (both have super cameos), this is an unashamed soap opera in spandex, but the British kitchen-sink elements are polished to a high Hollywood gloss. Nick Frost and Lena Headey offer strong support as Paige's parents in what is a slick package of killer one-liners, ace fight action and emotional poignancy.
