Duck Duck Goose

From the folks who hatched Shrek comes something that feels like a pale imitation of that film. A hesitant lead learns lessons from an unexpected journey, with a number of pithy gags and pratfalls along the way. The animation is slick, with a couple of gorgeous moments set in the Chinese countryside, but it can't cover for the tired script that projects the gags from a mile off. For their part, the voice cast are well placed, particularly veteran Carl Reiner as the voice of a wise turtle, whose delivery elevates the dialogue whenever he features. Young star Zendaya also puts some heart into her performance as one of the young chicks.
