A handyman falls for the spectre attempting to scare him out of a haunted rental property in this gorgeous black-and-white genre-blender from debut director Adam Stovall. Sent to fix up a house that can't seem to keep hold of its tenants, Jack (MacLeod Andrews) begins to suspect something's amiss after his handiwork is tampered with and he suffers unsettling dreams while crashing on the living-room floor. However, when the spook responsible (Natalie Walker) reveals herself, Jack refuses to leave, and a mutual understanding grows between these unexpected kindred spirits. Recalling the atmospheric best of Tim Burton, Sam Raimi and Ana Lily Amirpour, A Ghost Waits is a breath of fresh air for a genre that too often feels out of puff. Possessing warm, Addams Family-style humour, a loving embrace of horror imagery, and hugely likeable leads, it's a sensitive fable on loneliness that can't help but leave you moved. You'll fall head over haunted heels for it.
