A novelist helps Scotland Yard to investigate a string of murders, with the victims all connected to a doctor of nervous disorders. Mystery, with John Bentley and Dinah Sheridan
John Bentley and Dinah Sheridan assume the roles of Paul and Steve Temple for the second time in the sleuthing series produced for low-budget specialists Butcher's Film Service. Adapted from Francis Durbridge's radio serial Paul Temple and the Canterbury Case, it's a surprisingly sinister mystery that follows the duo into Kent on the trail of a murderer who signs off as "Rex" at every crime scene. Director Maclean Rogers pads the early action with a couple of numbers by chanteuse Celia Lipton, but he makes adept use of locations around the cathedral and the climax in the crypt of a ruined monastery is suitably tense. Margaretta Scott stands out from a solid supporting cast, while Bentley and Sheridan make a winning team, although their treatment of a Burmese servant (Shaym Bahadur) is regrettably patronising.
