In this slick, fast-paced slasher movie, a couple of college students quarantining in a lake house during the Covid-19 pandemic must rely on their wits to survive a relentless masked killer. Carefree Parker (Gideon Adlon) and worry-wart Miri (Beth Million) plan to drink, sunbathe and party away lockdown in Parker's secluded family vacation home. But on their first night in the house, the girls are attacked by a figure who seems determined to kill them by sunrise. Co-written by Scream's Kevin Williamson, this is a tightly executed little horror flick that makes the most of its cabin-by-the-lake setting. Director John Hyams (Alone) wrings the set-up for every drop of terror as the night grows desperate, and Adlon and Million rise to the challenge of playing a pair of gutsy final girls. There's even time for a cameo by Super 8's Joel Courtney. Rather than rewriting the rules of the slasher movie, Sick satisfyingly ticks all the genre boxes, right down to the surprise unmasking and entertainingly violent climax.
