Madame Web: Release date and how to watch
Is the film coming to streaming?
The latest chapter in Sony's live-action Spider-Man Universe, the Dakota Johnson-starring Madame Web, is upon us – marking the first Spider-Man spin-off to feature an all-female cast of heroes.
Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Trilogy, The Lost Daughter) leads the cast as Cassandra Webb, while Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) also appears as Julia Cornwall, one of the versions of Spider-Woman.
But they won’t be the only Spider-Women in town, as showcased by the film's trailer, which also gives fans a glimpse at Isabela Merced's Anya Corazon as Spider-Girl and Celeste O'Connor as Mattie Franklin.
While the film looks like an attempt to take the franchise in a new direction with its multiversal focus, unfortunately the first reviews and reactions to the movie have been overwhelmingly negative.

Madame Web release date and how to watch
Madame Web is out now in cinemas!
The film was initially slated to release on 7th July 2023, but the release date was delayed until 6th October 2023.
The release date was then pushed back again, with the final release date set as 14th February 2024, meaning you can watch it right now in cinemas.
Principal photography began on 11th July 2022, and filming, which took place in Boston, Massachusetts, and New York City, officially wrapped in January 2023.
The movie has been in development since 2019, and is inspired by the comic book character of the same name that first appeared in the The Amazing Spiderman #210 in November 1980.
When will I be able to stream Madame Web?
A streaming release date is yet to be announced.
However, thanks to a deal that was struck back in 2021, Sony’s films typically go to Netflix following their theatrical run and digital window, meaning Madame Web should eventually land on the streamer.
We'll keep you posted.
Who stars in Madame Web?
There’s been plenty of hype around Madame Web’s cast, which features Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Trilogy, The Lost Daughter) in the titular role of Madame Web, aka Cassandra Web.
Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) has also been cast in the film as Julia Cornwall, who in the comic books is the second character to take on the mantle of Spider-Woman.
In a Variety interview back in August 2023, Sweeney confirmed that she's playing the character, and said of Madame Web: "I think it's different from what people expect a superhero movie to be. Quote that! That's a quote, because the tabloids will pick up everything else we talk about."
Meanwhile, Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) stars as Anya Corazon, Celeste O'Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) stars as Mattie Franklin, Emma Roberts (American Horror Story) plays Mary Parker and Adam Scott (Severance) stars as Ben Parker.
Tahar Rahim (The Mauritanian) also appears as the film's villain, Ezekiel Sim, a spider-powered figure who has a connection to the death of Cassandra's mother.
The cast is rounded out by Mike Epps (The Hangover), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and Zosia Mamet (The Flight Attendant), who star as O'Neil and Amaria, respectively, though details about their characters remain under wraps.
Madame Web plot: What is it about?
The official synopsis for the film reads: "'Meanwhile, in another universe…' In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines."
It continues: "The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures... if they can all survive a deadly present."
In Marvel Comics, the first Madame Web is Cassandra Webb, a blind woman from Salem, Oregon who suffers from neurological deterioration, which has left her mostly paralysed.
However, she uses her psychic abilities to compensate, which include telepathy, astral projection and seeing the future.
The character is also known for her close association with the Spider-Women Jessica Drew and Julia Carpenter.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura previously explained that the new movie would take advantage of the character's mysterious past in the comic to give her a fresh origin story, telling ComicBook.com: “So, in that respect, if you're a Spider-Man fan, you're gonna love the character because you know it from the comic books, which she doesn't really have that big a character in the comic books, we're doing the origin story of Madame Web.
"And so you meet her before she's actually the person that you know in the comic book and you come to understand how she becomes that person. So, I think that'll be a really fresh new terrain for the fans."
