Will there be a Shazam! 3? Release date speculation and news
Billy Batson is back in business!
Billy Batson is back in business in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
The new DC film catches up with Billy (Asher Angel/Zachary Levi) after giving his whole family powers. And, as the title of the film suggests, certain beings aren't too happy about it.
Enter the Daughters of Atlas, Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), who are on a mission to stop the Shazamily once and for all.
But, with all the chaos surrounding DC, will we ever see more of Billy/Shazam?
Levi recently spoke out on the potential of another film, telling Deadline: "It all comes down to what the people want.”
He added: "We made a great movie, I’m really proud of this movie, I hope everyone sees it, I hope they tell all their friends and family. That’s all I can do: I can show up and be the best Shazam that I can be."
It's not the first time he's mentioned the prospect of a third film. Read on for everything we know about a potential Shazam! 3.
Will there be a Shazam! 3?
Nothing has been confirmed at this point as to whether Shazam! will become a trilogy. We'd expect Fury of the Gods to be left a little open-ended, to allow for a decision to be made on that, but it ultimately comes down to James Gunn and Peter Safran's vision for the new DCU – and if Shazam has a place in that.
There have been some brutal decisions made, including the cancellation of the third Wonder Woman film, and confirmations announcing that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Henry Cavill will not be returning as Black Adam and Superman any time soon.
So, whether Gunn and Safran decide to continue with Shazam remains to be seen.
Levi has made it clear he has trust in both of them, adding to Deadline: "I do know that Peter, who I've know for years, and James, who I've even known longer, are really excellent leaders. And I trust where they're going to take all this stuff."
Shazam! 3 release date speculation
The first Shazam! film was released in 2019, with the second coming four years later in 2023 – although it was originally meant to be released in late 2022 but was pushed back.
If DC goes forward with Shazam! 3, we could potentially expect a release date of 2026.
Who could star in a potential Shazam! 3?
This all depends on which of our heroes are making it out of the second film.
But, we would expect the below cast members to return:
- Zachary Levi and Asher Angel as Billy Batson / Shazam:
- Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Frederick "Freddy" Freeman:
- Ross Butler and Ian Chen as Eugene Choi:
- Meagan Good and Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley:
- Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield:
- D. J. Cotrona and Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña
- Marta Milans as Rosa Vásquez
- Cooper Andrews as Victor Vásquez
