Superstar director Guy Ritchie is collaborating with two of the UK's most acclaimed actors for a new movie that evokes Netflix's The Gentlemen with its exploration of British aristocracy.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike will lead the cast of Wife & Dog, which is set to go before cameras in February 2025, in line with Ritchie's typically breakneck pace of production.

Indeed, the director currently has two other films in the works – action thriller In the Grey (also starring Pike) and heist adventure Fountain of Youth – all the while working on his Young Sherlock series for Prime Video. Work ethics don't come much better.

Wife & Dog should be a treat for fans of Ritchie's recent streaming hit, described as a "return to the colourful, back-stabbing world of the British aristocracy [he] explored in The Gentlemen film and TV series" (via Deadline).

No other information was given about the plot of the film, but we can gather from that description that it may include a comedic undercurrent, as many of Ritchie's projects do.

Wife & Dog will be produced by Black Bear, the same studio behind Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Pike's I Care a Lot and Cumberbatch's The Imitation Game.

Netflix's The Gentlemen was a spiritual successor to Ritchie's 2020 film of the same name, starring Theo James as an aristocrat who learns his family's wealth is built on an illegal marijuana trade.

The series proved a major hit when it landed on the streaming platform back in March, but it took a full five months for Netflix to confirm a second season – which many have speculated was partly due to the packed schedules of the creatives involved.

In August, the streamer said that season 2 is "expected" to start filming in 2025, with James, Kaya Scodelario and Daniel Ings set to reprise their roles in The Gentlemen cast.

With Wife & Dog now pencilled in for February, we can assume that The Gentlemen will take a later slot in Ritchie's calendar, meaning we probably won't see more episodes of the show until 2026.

The film continues Ritchie's recent streak of collaborations with A-list talent, including Henry Cavill (on Ungentlemanly Warfare), Natalie Portman (on Fountain of Youth), Colin Firth (on Young Sherlock) and Jake Gyllenhaal (on In the Grey).

Wife & Dog is coming soon. The Gentlemen is available to stream on Netflix. Sign up for Netflix from £4.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.
