Five years after the release of the widely-loved Into the Spider-Verse, Shameik Moore's "one and only" Spider-Man is back in business.

We're gradually learning more and more about what looks to be an epic instalment, with co-director Kemp Powers recently explaining: "Across the Spider-Verse is a movie on its own, but it definitely ends on a bit of a cliffhanger."

He added to SFX: "I think it’s a good cliffhanger. We hope that it’s a satisfying tee-up for what’s coming in the third film, because you want people to be excited about what’s coming next."

Powers went on to compare it to The Empire Strikes Back, commonly referred to as the best Star Wars film of all time – so no pressure there!

There's plenty more story to tell, with the third instalment in the franchise, Beyond the Spider-Verse, currently scheduled for next year.

But for now, here's everything we know so far about Across the Spider-Verse.

Fans don't have much longer to wait! It's been revealed that Across the Spider-Verse will be released on Friday 2nd June 2023.

The film was initially announced in November 2019, so it's been a long time waiting for Miles's return. While it was originally scheduled for release in April 2022, it was delayed due to COVID.

The epic new film will see various Spider-People appear as Morales faces up to the multiverse, including the return of Jake Johnson's Peter B Parker and a very sweet reunion.

Meanwhile, Oscar Isaac will appear as Miguel O'Hara, who's not too happy about the idea of Miles joining his elite crew.

What is the plot of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?

Across the Spider-Verse will see Miles grappling with the multiverse as he comes face to face with an elite group of Spider-People.

A synopsis reads: "After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.

"But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most."
