35. Trapped (BBC4)
Horizontal snow, teeth-cracking cold and a big, burly man with a frozen beard investigating a riveting locked-room murder mystery. Except the locked room was a tiny, remote Icelandic town that was to become cut off from the rest of the world by an apocalyptic winter storm. Police chief Andri (Olafur Darri Olafsson, who went on to appear in The Missing) and a police force of two were fully stretched by the discovery of a torso in the harbour, just before the berthing of a passenger ferry. As the snow piled up and the death toll rose, it was clear someone in the little community had blood on his or her hands. Alison Graham
