Sky Rojo might not have reached the enormous level of viewership as Alex Pina's earlier Netflix series Money Heist, but those who have tuned in will know it to be an exciting and darkly comic crime saga – which is now nearing its end.

The third season, which drops this week, has been confirmed as the final instalment in the series, allowing it to end on its own terms with what is sure to be an action-packed send-off.

When it launched back in 2021, Sky Rojo introduced us to Coral (Verónica Sánchez), Wendy (Lali Espósito) and Gina (Yany Prado), three women who had been forced into sex work by a vile pimp known as Romeo (Asier Etxeandia).

A daring escape led to an epic chase that they were thoroughly unprepared for, but season 2 saw them triumph against their abusers, stealing €4 million with which to start a peaceful new life.

Alas, the past never stays buried for long, with this final season setting up one last battle between the tough-as-nails women and their relentless arch-enemy. Here's everything you need to know about Sky Rojo season 3 on Netflix.

CONFIRMED: Sky Rojo season 3 lands on Netflix on Friday 13th January 2023. All eight episodes will drop at once, making it a perfect choice for your weekend binge.

There was only a mere four months separating the first and second season of Sky Rojo, due to both entries being filmed at the same time, so the 18-month wait for season 3 has certainly tested the patience of fans.

Here's hoping it's worth the wait.

While Sky Rojo has flown somewhat under the radar here in the UK – struggling to crack Netflix's top 10 with either its first or second season – it has been a bigger hit internationally.

The latest episodes reached number one in seven countries, including Spain and Argentina, as well as securing top ten positions in France, Mexico, Brazil and Italy, among others.

Sky Rojo season 3 reunites series leads Verónica Sánchez, Lali Espósito and Yany Prado, who have earned high praise for their powerful portrayals of women-on-the-run Coral, Wendy and Gina.

Espósito has proven to be one of the show's most popular stars on social media, with the Argentine singer-songwriter boasting 11.5 million Instagram followers and 7 million on Twitter, where she is the focus of numerous fan accounts.

Asier Etxeandia reprises his role as nasty pimp Romeo, who has been relentlessly chasing after the trio since they escaped his dingy brothel known as Las Novias Club.

Meanwhile, Miguel Ángel Silvestre also returns for Sky Rojo season 3 as Romeo's prime henchman Moisés, who Money Heist fans may recognise from his supporting role in the heist thriller's final season.

Rauw Alejandro, Catelina Sopelana and Tiago Correa have joined the cast for this chapter, but Enric Auquer is not expected to appear after his exit in season 2.

The story of Sky Rojo kicked off with a bang when Coral (Verónica Sánchez), Wendy (Lali Espósito) and Gina (Yany Prado) chaotically escaped the brothel where they had been held captive for so long.

Not intent on letting them get away, pimp Romeo sent his henchmen – Moisés and Christian – after the women, leading to several dramatic and violent confrontations.

Season 3 picks up six months after the events of the second outing, with the trio settling into a life of luxury after successfully stealing a whopping €4 million from their arch-enemy.

However, Romeo and Moisés are plotting revenge.

The Netflix synopsis reads: "When, one peaceful day of sea fishing, far away from all the pain they suffered, they see the two hitmen appear again on the horizon, on the high seas, they understand at a glance that their victory is only a partial triumph.

"You can resurrect. You can change your life, but you cannot forget where you came from. Because the day you do, the past appears again at your door."

Accepting they'll never be able to move on while Romeo is still alive, they make it their mission to take him down once and for all.
