15 books to read on World Book Day that are airing on TV in 2018
Because for some the book is ALWAYS better...especially on World book Day!
11. Sharp Objects - Gillian Flynn
Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl made quite the splash when it hit cinema screens in 2014 so it’s little wonder Academy Award nominee Amy Adams has signed on to star in HBO’s adaptation of Flynn’s Sharp Objects.
The eight episode miniseries follows crime reporter Camille (Adams) who has just been released from a psychiatric hospital where she’s been working through the issues that caused her to self-harm. Taking it easy isn't top of Camille's agenda, as she heads back to her childhood home in Wind Gap, Missouri, to investigate the murders of two little girls.
It's there that she must confront her demons, and her rather interesting mother, Adora (Patricia Clarkson).
Sharp Objects is due to air on HBO in the USA in 2018 - a UK air date has yet to be confirmed
12. The War of The Worlds - H G Wells
Doctor Who, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and Wallander screenwriter Peter Harness will put pen to paper for the first British television adaptation of H. G. Wells’ novel The War of the Worlds, produced by Mammoth Screen for BBC One.
Wells' classic story about the Martian invasion of earth is told through the eyes of an ordinary man. The citizens of London flee in terror as these curious tentacled invaders from space begin to take over their city and there's a race against time to figure out how to stop them.
There's no confirmed air date just yet but the series begins filming in early 2018 and is expected to arrive on out screens within the year, so it might be a good idea to add it to your reading list.
The War of The Words is currently set to air on the BBC in 2018
