1. The Reichenbach Fall

Sherlock Holmes appears to have met his match in Jim Moriarty, who launches a simultaneous heist on the Tower of London, Bank of England, and Pentonville Prison using just a few lines of code that can break into any security. After intimidating the jury he manages to get off the hook and promises to "burn" his enemy - a promise which he follows through with gusto, kidnapping an American ambassador's children. Sherlock becomes a suspect in the kidnapping when the children appear to be afraid of him and is on the run when he learns that Moriarty has been telling the press that he's a fraud.

The pair meet on the roof of the hospital where Moriarty delivers a shocking ultimatum: Sherlock must take his own life. If he doesn't, assassins will kill John, Mrs Hudson and Lestrade. Moriarty then takes his own life, forcing Sherlock to do the same. He calls John, admits to being a fraud, and steps off the roof.

The rest, as they say, is Sherlock history.
