Leonard DiCaprio signs deal to make new film Conquest with The Revenant writer
Is the actor going to suffer terribly once again?
The Revenant put Leonardo through his paces as an actor, sending his indestructible fur trapper Hugh Glass on an epic journey of revenge after being mauled by a bear and left for dead. And it also landed him an Oscar nomination.
Now the actor is teaming up with the Mark L. Smith – who wrote The Revenant with director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu – for a new film called Conquest.
There are no plot details but it was confirmed last night by Deadline that studio giant Paramount has snapped up the rights to the project.
Intriguingly, the movie bears the same title as a TV series developed three years ago by Ron Howard which has still not seen the light of day.
The plan was to make a sweeping period drama telling the story of famed Spanish Conquistador Hernan Cortes, who led the Spanish conquest in Mexico, and his clash with Moctezuma II, the last ruler of the Aztec Empire.
Of course this is only speculation but is Leo going to enter another bloody world filled with gold, magic and imperialist aggression? Time will tell…
