Meet Mrs Hudson Mrs Hudson is Sherlock's (and formally John's) landlady at 221B Baker Street and the supplier of much tea and sympathy. With something of an exotic past, she owes Sherlock a debt of gratitude thanks to his handling of a case involving her ex-husband (now deceased).

What else has Una Stubbs been in? Though Sherlock’s international audience might not know it, Una Stubbs has been something of a British national treasure for half a century. Her first major screen role was opposite Cliff Richard in Summer Holiday, after which she spent a decade as Rita, Alf Garnett’s daughter in the classic sitcom Till Death Us Do Part. In 1979, she notched up another iconic role as Aunt Sally in Worzel Gummidge with Jon Pertwee and spent much of the 80s captaining the women’s charades team in long-running game show Give Us A Clue.

Having clocked up appearances in everything from Heartbeat and Casualty to Benidorm and EastEnders, in 2015 she presented The Big Painting Challenge alongside Richard Bacon.

Fun fact: As a friend of his mother, Wanda Ventham, Stubbs has known Benedict Cumberbatch since he was four years old – and now she looks after him as Mrs Hudson. Aaaaw.
