The popular BBC One series about betting syndicates has returned to our screens – with a new story about a group of kennel workers and their mission to track down their stolen millions.
Each season of Kay Mellor's BBC One drama The Syndicate follows the story of five members of a betting syndicate who win the lottery, and each season is set in a different workplace: a supermarket, a hospital, a stately home... and now, as the drama returns for the first time in almost six years (!), it is the turn of five employees at a dog kennels to win big on the Mercury Millions.
But this time, there's a twist – as local newsagent Frank (Line of Duty's Neil Morrissey) suddenly does a runner to Monaco. Did the syndicate actually win a lot more money thank Frank was letting on? And how will they get back the money that's rightfully theirs?

When is The Syndicate season four on TV?
The Syndicate began on Tuesday 30th March 2021 at 9pm on BBC One.
There are six episodes in the season, with new episodes airing on Tuesdays at 9pm.
Created by BAFTA-winner Kay Mellor, the stand-alone fourth series of The Syndicate was announced in February 2020 – five years after the last run of the show. Unfortunately, the pandemic then hit the UK, and just a month later filming had to be postponed before it had even begun.
Mellor said: "Lockdown has been a roller-coaster of emotions for all of us. I was devastated not to be able to begin shooting the new Syndicate. All the scripts were written and we were four days away from principal photography."
However, after several months of waiting, The Syndicate was one of the first shows to go into production (with a few script changes and a lot of COVID safety measures – as you can read in our feature on The Syndicate filming locations).
The Syndicate season 4 cast
In addition to Neil Morrissey, other The Syndicate cast members include Liberty Hobbs; The Inbetweeners star Emily Head; Kieran Urquhart; Line of Duty's Taj Atwal; and Katherine Rose Morley (Last Tango in Halifax).
The cast also features Joe Sugg, the popular YouTuber and star of Strictly Come Dancing – who makes his acting debut on the small screen as slacker boyfriend/aspiring guitarist Sam.
Other supporting cast members include Mark Benton, Gaynor Faye, Katie McGlynn, James Cartwright, Kym Marsh, Andrew Dunn and Lorraine Bruce.

What is The Syndicate season 4 about?
Kay Mellor described the fourth standalone series as "a brand-new story about a syndicate of low paid kennel workers who think they’ve won the lottery but have been robbed of their ticket. The chase to confront the culprit takes us to the wealthy French Riviera where the young syndicate find themselves well out of their depth".
The BBC has billed the series as a cat-and-mouse thriller, stating in an early synopsis that the show is "peppered with the comedy, pathos and high-drama audiences have come to expect from The Syndicate".
