X Factor confirms 2016 series with call for new contestants
As expected, The X Factor will return next year
The X Factor will be back next year its been confirmed, a call for contestants going out at the end of tonight's show.
It's not unexpected; next year marks the third and final year in the current deal between the show and commercial broadcaster ITV.
It's 2017 that's the interesting one, given it's the year the channel takes over rival singing show The Voice from the BBC. There's been suggestion both shows will run alongside each other, The Voice usually airing in January so nowhere near X Factor's regular spot.
Then again, there's also been suggestion this year that X Factor is a strong enough format to be rested and brought back.
But we've got a whole year to worry about that, for now we know that next year plenty more will face the music.
