Live coverage of this event has now concluded

Welcome to our live review of Moon Knight episode 4, aka The One Where Marc And Steven Lose Their Powers. Following the events of episode three, it's up to the dynamic duo (and Layla) to stop Harrow from bringing Ammit back to life while Khonshu languishes in his dinky prison.

There were thrills, spills and spooky chills - and we were here for every twist and turn, following along with the action as the episode was released for the first time on Disney Plus. Check below for our blow-by-blow recap and review of the new episode.

PS: does anyone else still think there's a secret third Moon Knight personality?

  • Goodbyes

Anyway, that's it from me today. The next episode will be here next week, same Moon-time, same Moon-channel, so hopefully we'll have at least some of our questions solved.

Until then, I've been Huw and this and been Moon Knight. We won, guys. We won!

  • Looking ahead

Theories: the hippo God (whose name I forget) is the one whose avatar conspired with Marc/Steven at the big God meeting, and she saved Marc/Steven's life just like Khonshu once did because she thinks he's the only one who can stop Ammit returning.

For some reason, this required putting him in this strange mental hospital purgatory, and we'll find out exactly why in the next episode.

Another theory: there's a third personality who Marc and Steven need to confront. Could it be Jake Lockley from the comic books, Mr Knight (basically that dapper Moon Knight suit but with a detective vibe, also from the comics) or someone else entirely? With just two episodes to go in this miniseries, it seems likely that we'll be finding out more soon enough.

  • The end?

And if things weren't weird enough, the episode concludes with both Marc and Steven being confronted by a friendly hippo God, who greets them cheerily as they both scream in terror. Pretty strange!

Altogether, it's a bit of a cliffhanger to leave things on ahead of next week's penultimate episode. Why does this God have them in this purgatory? Who was trying to trick Marc into thinking he had gone mad? And how will Layla get away from the real Harrow and his men?

  • That didn't take long

OK yeah the mental institution went full weird dream about five seconds after Marc left Harrow's office. And now Marc has found a separate, physical Steven inside a sarcophagus.

In another room, a second sarcophagus shakes violently...but the pair decide not to bother or look inside, because they just want us to theorise more about a third Moon Knight personality. The swines.

  • Dr Harrow?

Harrow is here as a bespectacled, bemoustached therapist/Doctor, whose weird office is full of hints and clues about the events of the series. Clearly teeing up Marc tov believe he made the whole thing up. Though we, of course, don't believe it, because that would make episode five and six kind of a downer.

"I can't help you if you can't help yourself," this version of Harrow says again.

Looks like Marc's sedation is wearing off, and he's able to fight off some orderlies, get out of Harrow's office. And even run!

  • Now on VHS

Cut to: the very dated straight-to-video adventures of Dr Steven Grant, a vaguely cockney explorer on the TV of some kind of mental institution.

Basically, every character we've seen is here as either a patient or an orderly. Including Marc and Layla, repeating their "we won" line relating to Bingo. Marc is drugged, tied to his wheelchair in the same restraints Steven used, and unable to contact his other self.

There's even a little Moon Knight action figure on the floor. So was it all a dream?

    It's giving this:

  • Marc got shot!

Guess they'd run out of budget for a big action scene on that one. Now, he's falling in slo-mo like Sherlock into the water in Alexander's tomb. Nasty old Harrow put two bullets in his chest, now he's floating downwards in an atmospheric way, bathed in light.

  • Marc is back

Layla, demanding the truth about her father pulls him out of Steven. Marc (correctly) thinks they could have this conversation outside of the murder tomb full of zombies and gunmen, but Layla wants to have it out now.

His "partner got greedy" and eventually turned on him, killing Layla's dad (and Marc) to steal some treasure. A little nod to the Moon Knight villain Bushman, who fills that role in the comics.

Oh, NOW Layla agrees they should leave. If they'd just left immediately, everything would be sorted.

  • Sorry Mr Great

Steven's doing some classic Indiana Jones stuff, finding the whojamawhatsit they need to stop Ammit, or find Ammir, or whatever it is they're doing.

Meanwhile, Harrow is still causing drama, talking about scarves, and sitting in strange dangly areas.

  • Into The Tomb

Steven has stumbled on the main tomb, finding lots of cool relics and Macedonian text that indicates they're looking at "the long-lost tomb of Alexander the Great."

All Marc wants to talk about is his vibes with Layla. So obsessed with the drama. And Harrow has done his creepy lil pop up thing to tell Layla some terrible truths about her father's death. Does nobody have a sense of urgency here.

  • Uncharted: The Lost Levels

I'm just saying, all this climbing around inside vast tombs and almost falling off crumbling cliffs is giving me serious Naughty Dog vibes. Though the horrible mummy hands coming out of the walls to grab Layla are more, you know, The Mummy.

God I'd forgotten how spooky this episode is. Gives me the ick, in a good way.

  • The Mummy Returns...

...with some new additions to its collection.

Basically there's a horrible blue dead guy chopping up and trying to embalm trespassers, and now he's on to Steven and Layla. Horrible blue fingers crawling up towards our plucky hero.

"I squished it. I squished it." Did Steven save the day?

You'd really think Ammit might turn off the weird priest guards for Harrow's lot, who are actually trying to help her. Oh well.

  • Fresh blood and little chunks of meaty bits

    Alternate title for the episode?

Anyway, Steven and Layla have found some...uncomfortable residue, which clearly signposts some sort of horrible zombie attack taking out Harrow's men earlier. Even if we hadn't heard shooting just now. We're heading into some horror territory now.

  • "What would they be shooting at?"

Always a good thing to hear in a spooky ancient tomb. Getting some Uncharted vibes here. Especially with all the made-up Egyptology nonsense leading them to (sort of) buried treasure.

How do Marc and Layla know so little about Egypt's legends, when Steven just read about it in books? Isn't this kind of their whole jobs? Philistines.

  • Oscar Isaac's accent...

Still makes me laugh. But in an affectionate way, now. That's just Steven!

  • OK he's not that sneaky

Just as he was about to get some action with Layla, he revealed Khonshu's plans, and that Marc was trying to protect her.

Luckily, this pays off as she's into honesty. Which is strange for an international antiques thief but hey, we're all complex threads in life's rich tapestry.

  • Sneaky Steven

He's getting his own way with Marc at last, lying to Layla that his other self has gone for good. Anyway, who needs a skilled ex-mercenary when you can have a bumbling gift shop worker in your corner?

Anyway they're on their way to Ammit's tomb. I feel like it would have been easier to just...follow them than find a magic sarcophagus map and change the stars. Bit of a waste of time, no?

  • Layla and Steven

Running away from Harrow's men, hiding in trucks and so on...and now going all Jurassic Park with the flares.

Funny how Steven finally discovered his MK powers, had them for what, an episode and a half then immediately lost them again. Ah well. Layla's natural flair (flare? Geddit) make up for the loss.

  • Poor Khonshu

Looks like He's going away to be studied by top men.

    Top. Men.

(Jeez, how many gods have they turned into merch already? I'd start to feel like there are other pastoral issues they need to address)

  • Here we go

The episode is live - let's step into The Tomb...

  • Full disclosure...

I have to be honest here - unlike many of the live blogs I've done for RadioTimes.com, I have some pre-knowledge of what I'm talking about today. I saw episode four a few weeks ago - however, it was a while back and I've sort of forgotten quite a bit of it, so my reactions will (I'm sure) still be fairly genuine.

And if you think this means I'll have preprepared some responses, robbing my beloved readers of the kind of off-the-cuff bon mots they've come to expect, never fear - I have done no prep of any kind for this blog, despite how much easier that might make my job. I'm just that darn committed to this format.

(/didn't have the time or inclination to prepare anything. It was a busy Tuesday!)

  • Happy Moon morning!

Hello and welcome to this Moon Knight live review/live blog/whatever I'm doing this early on a Wednesday morning.

My name's Huw, and in a few short minutes I'll be delving into the new episode of Moon Knight, breaking down the biggest moments as they happen. But if you read the intro, you probably already know that.
