ITVX: How to watch, prices, plans, Smart TV availability
How to get ITVX on TV and Sky.
Love Island is back to get us through the harsh winter months with some South African sun.
This time, the popular reality dating show is available on ITVX, the new streaming home of ITV’s online content, which has replaced ITV Hub.
The platform lets you watch from a library of old and new ITV series, as well as live TV such as Love Island.
ITVX has already treated viewers to a load of original programming including Litvinenko and A Spy Among Friends, and it looks like it's only going to get more packed with content as the weeks go by, as ITVX is set to offer “more than 10,000 hours” of content, including new originals every week.
So, how much does ITVX cost, which other shows will become available to stream and how can you get ITVX on TV and Sky? Read on for everything you need to know.
How to watch ITVX
You can already explore what ITVX has to offer by heading to itv.com to check out the web browser version. If you have a Samsung Smart TV (dating from 2016 onwards), an Xbox One/S/X or Xbox Series X/S, a Huawei device, a Chromecast, a Roku streaming player or a NOW smart stick or box, then your app should have updated too.
Otherwise, you’ll have to wait for the ITVX app to replace the old ITV Hub app on your device.
How do I watch live TV on ITVX?
It’s pretty simple. When you open up ITVX on your browser on the app, you will see that the service is divided into several sections, including Live, Films and Categories (where you’ll find boxsets, divided up by genre).
If you select the Live section, you’ll be able to watch live shows on channels including ITV1, ITV2 and ITVBe.
How can I watch ITVX on my TV?
According to ITV, you can currently use ITVX on Samsung Smart TVs (from 2016 onwards) and Roku TVs, and you can also access the app using an Amazon Fire TV stick, FreeView Play, NOW TV, on iOS devices, iOS phones and tablets, Android phones and tablets and Sky Glass. Phew.
If you have an older Samsung Smart TV which has recently lost access to the ITV Hub, though, ITVX won’t be compatible with your device either, due to the upgraded content protection technology used on the new platform. You could get around this by using a device like a Fire stick or Chromecast to stream from the app to the TV.
You can use the same log-in details from your old ITV Hub account to access the free version of ITVX.
Can I get ITVX on Sky?
Yes, you can access ITVX on Sky’s TV devices, but for now only on Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
Is ITVX on Sky Q?
Unfortunately, ITVX can not be accessed from a Sky Q box yet, and no details have been announced about whether we can expect the service to launch on the platform.
The full ITV Hub app was never available on Sky Q either. Instead, only a limited selection of ITV’s catch-up shows were available to watch on Sky Q.
What is ITVX?
ITVX, which launched on all platforms on 8th December 2022, is the new online home of all ITV content as the broadcaster aims to compete with streaming giants such as Prime Video and Netflix.
ITVX will offer “more than 10,000 hours” of content, including new originals every week, including A Spy Among Friends – a six-part cold war drama starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce and based on the book by Ben Macintyre – and The Confessions of Frannie Langton, a period drama starring Karla-Simone Spence and Sophie Cookson.
The move comes as the broadcaster aims to compete with streaming giants such as Prime Video and Netflix.
New teen drama Tell Me Everything has also been released, alongside Plebs: Soldiers of Rome, a feature-length finale for the historical comedy series.
From then on, at least one major show will launch on ITVX each week. Litvinenko, starring David Tennant and Mark Bonnar, is set to launch on 15th December, followed by family drama Riches on 22nd December.
The next week, Without Sin and new game show Loaded in Paradise will arrive on 28th December, with Nolly following in the new year.
ITVX will also launch full series of ITV shows on their first day of broadcast, including upcoming political drama Stonehouse starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes and the latest season of Unforgotten, allowing you to binge-watch at your leisure.
