The South Korean thriller has been renewed for a second season.
It's already been a long old wait but fans are no less excited for All of Us Are Dead season 2!
After its premiere in January 2022, All of Us Are Dead shot straight into the top 10 most watched non-English TV series in 91 countries and remained there for two consecutive weeks.
Thankfully, the show was renewed for season 2 in June 2022 with an epic teaser after major demand from fans – but there have been few updates since.
Read on for everything you need to know about All of Us Are Dead season 2.
All of Us Are Dead season 2 release date speculation
We'd expect All of Us Are Dead season 2 in summer 2024 at the earliest.
An official release date has not yet been confirmed, though, so we'll keep this page updated with all the latest information.
The series was renewed for season 2 in June 2022, with Netflix confirming: "Get ready to outrun even more Gen Z zombies because All of Us Are Dead is crawling back for Season 2."
The announcement was also accompanied by a teaser trailer.
Which cast members could return for All of Us Are Dead season 2?
We're expecting that the following cast members will return:
- Yoon Chan-young as Lee Cheong-san
- Park Ji-hu as Nam On-jo
- Cho Yi-hyun as Choi Nam-ra
- Lomon as Lee Su-hyeok
- Park Solomon as Su-hyeok
- Im Jae-hyuk as Dae-su
- Ha Seung-ri as Ha-ri
- Lee Eun-saem as Mi-jin
- Kim Bo-yoon as Hyo-ryung
Cheon-san was presumed dead in season 1, making his appearance in the teaser trailer a huge surprise.
Speaking to NCB News, Cho Yi-hyun, who plays Nam-ra, attributed the first series' success to its relatable characters.
“Students are not children but not yet adults either. I’m like that. I’m neither human nor a monster," she explained.
“Everyone faces an identity crisis at one point in their life. As a teenager, I also felt like an adult but not yet an adult. I went through stages like that. In those aspects, I related to Nam-ra,” she said.
What the plot of All of Us Are Dead season 2 be?
All of Us Are Dead is based on a South Korean digital comic of the same name, with the initial batch of 12 episodes adapting the source material in full.
A second season renewal means that even die-hard fans will be in uncharted territory, with the show's writers having to craft an original direction to take the remaining characters.
"The students of Hyosan High School may have survived their first zombie outbreak, but the nightmare is far from over," the official season 2 Netflix description reads.
Director Lee Jae-kyoo previously told The Korea Herald of season 2: “Many directions, settings, and scenes were intentionally produced to expand the story into an additional season, including the introduction of the new races of zombies – immune and immortal.
“If the first season can be seen as having presented humanity‘s survival, the next season can talk about the survival of zombies.”
Of course, season 1 ended with the bombing of Hyosan and the apparent deaths of Cheong-san and Gwi-nam. The surviving students made it to the quarantine but it's clear the trouble is far from over.
Meanwhile, Nam-ra is now half-human, half-zombie, so only time will tell as to how that will pan out.
Something fans loved about season 1 was the romance element – so we'd guess we'll see more of that in season 2 too.
Sharing some behind-the-scenes details, the actors revealed it took 17 takes to film a kiss scene in season 1 – so clearly they're dedicated to getting it right!
Cho said: “I felt really sorry for Lomon. Because I had my eyes closed when I was leaning in [for the kiss], so I couldn’t find where his lips were.
“I kept saying, ‘Lomon, I’m really sorry. Can we try it just one more time? I’m really sorry.’ But Lomon was like, ‘Personally, I’m happy to keep going’," she added, earning laughter from the rest of the cast.
