A continuation of the original series that aired on Netflix from 2015 to 2018, Born Again picks up with blind lawyer-turned-vigilante Matt Murdock (Cox) as he continues to fight for justice. Meanwhile, former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), who's now mayor of New York City.

However, when their past identities begin to emerge, the pair find themselves on an explosive collision course.

Other returning cast members include Elden Henson as Franklin Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle aka Punisher.

The series didn't originally feature Henson and Woll, and it was only when showrunner Dario Scardapane joined the project and reshaped the series to be more of a continuation of the story rather than a reboot that their returns became on the cards.

Asked what we can expect from the characters, Scardapane recently told RadioTimes.com in an exclusive interview: "I was fortunate enough to work with Deborah Ann Woll in The Punisher.

"I knew when I met with [Marvel] the first time that Karen Page, as a character, as an entity, as part of this world, is super important.

"So I'm very excited for the fans and everybody to see how that evolves and what's to come.

"Without giving too much away, I could say that if that relationship and if that character matters to you, you will be very satisfied."

Speaking about how the upcoming Marvel series will have some big differences from the original series, Scardapane recently told SFX Magazine: "There is more fun in the moments with these characters and a lot less navel-gazing than before."

"The earlier show, at its best, was fantastic. At its worst, it was two characters in a room talking about what a hero is. I felt that had been done. I'm not taking swipes. I just didn't want to hear characters grousing about their lot in life. I wanted to see them doing things.”
"One of our edits was longer scenes," he added. "You had these long five-page scenes of characters hashing it out in order to make space between these massive action sequences. The way stuff has evolved since then, we're able to do big action sequences at a lot more pace.
Elsewhere in the interview, he teased that the upcoming series is "even more grounded" than last year's show The Penguin, which was another dark take on the superhero genre.

"It's really strange," he said. "You work in a vacuum and then something else comes out and you go, 'Oh, wow'. I would say in many ways The Penguin is our direct competition. However, we're even more grounded, even less stylized, even more rooted in the here and now. I loved Penguin. We're a little faster, meaner, cleaner in our storytelling."

The first trailer for the new Disney Plus series was released in early 2025, with fans hopeful that the new version will live up to the original Netflix show.

Daredevil: Born Again release date

Daredevil: Born Again is coming to Disney Plus on Tuesday 4th March 2025.

The release date was announced by producer Sana Amanat during a panel at New York Comic Con.

The series was initially targeting a spring 2024 release, but was thrown severely off course when it underwent a creative overhaul midway through production, and then took a further hiatus for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Addressing the behind-the-scenes turmoil, Cox told TVLine that the characters in Born Again are now "much closer" to the versions from the Netflix series.

Vincent D’Onofrio added: "It’s hard to comment because I want to say so much about... the change that happened, but in the end, the last few months of work that we did was quite intense and written beautifully and directed beautifully, so we can only hope for the best.

"Personally, I think it’s as intense as we’ve ever been."

In April 2024, filming wrapped on the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, which will consist of nine episodes (rather than the initially reported 18) and be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Five.

How many episodes will there be in Daredevil: Born Again?

Daredevil: Born Again will have nine episodes.

It was initially envisioned as having 18 episodes, but it was reworked creatively to focus on just nine.

Is there a Daredevil: Born Again trailer?

Yes! Check out the first trailer for Daredevil: Born Again below:

What will the plot of Daredevil: Born Again be?

Born Again is set to pick up where the original series left off.

"There was talk early on about reinventing the whole thing, to see if Matt was a slightly different person," Cox previously told Empire. "But it ended up more of a continuation."
The official synopsis reads: "In Marvel Television's Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavours in New York.
"When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course."

As we know from the trailer and from the end of Echo, Fisk is now mayor of New York City - but, of course, Matt doubts his intentions. It seems the pair will both face up to their pasts while trying to move forward.

Scardapane also previously teased that Born Again is "much darker" than the original series.

He told SFX: "I really feel that Netflix's Daredevil, which I know in my blood, was much more noir, and this show is more New York crime story.

"It has elements of The Sopranos and King of New York. There's a feeling for those classic '90s crime tales. It has a pace and a scope that, for a lot of reasons, Netflix wasn't able to do. They were very dark, cinematically, not necessarily story-wise, although there were some dark elements. We're much darker."

How did Daredevil season 3 end on Netflix?

The third season of Daredevil that was released on Netflix ended with Wilson Fisk being brought down by the likes of Matt Murdock, Karen Page and more.

Fisk agreed to return to prison in return for Matt not exposing Fisk's beloved wife Vanessa and her involvement in the death of a federal agent.

Meanwhile, the psychopathic former federal agent Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter turned on his master Wilson Fisk, but was left paralysed in a fight with the Kingpin.

However, in the final scene, we saw Dex undergoing an experimental treatment to mend his spine - suggesting he will return for revenge on Murdock and Fisk.

Finally, Murdock reunited with former flame Karen Page and best friend and fellow lawyer Foggy Nelson, and made clear he would like to work with them again.

It remains to be seen just how much of the Daredevil series will remain canon.

When did we last see Wilson Fisk?

Kingpin/Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D'Onofrio, last appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Echo on Disney Plus, with his adoptive niece Maya seeking bloody revenge for the death of her father.

Miraculously, he survived a shot to the head from Maya, with D'Onofrio ominously telling TVLine: "If you’re a fan of Kingpin and Daredevil – the old comics – you know that Kingpin never dies."

Crucially, the mid-credits scene shows Kingpin deciding to run for mayor of New York City, setting up a major storyline in Daredevil: Born Again.

Said scene shows Kingpin back on his plane, as he tells his aide: "I want a meeting with all the other heads. We need to stabilise the situation before it spirals out of control."

Looking at the TV, he notices a debate about the race for for mayor of New York City – and how there's no clear frontrunner yet – before clearly deciding he's the man for the job.

Before then, he appeared in the series Hawkeye on Disney Plus when he was revealed in the penultimate episode to be the chief antagonist of the show.

Fisk was shown to be in league with Eleanor Bishop (Vera Farmiga), whose late husband owed him money. When Bishop tried to end their partnership, Fisk tried to kill her but was stopped by her daughter Kate (Hailee Steinfeld).

The series also introduced Fisk's surrogate niece and protégée Maya Lopez, who commands the gang known as the Tracksuit Mafia for her uncle.

Lopez wanted revenge on the assassin Ronin – the former alias of Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) – for the murder of her father William Lopez (Zahn McClarnon).

Barton revealed to Lopez that he was hired by an informant in the Tracksuit Mafia to kill her father, causing her to suspect her lieutenant and best friend Kazimierz "Kazi" Kazimierczak (Fra Fee).

After a confrontation that saw her kill Kazi, Lopez is armed with the knowledge that her "uncle" Fisk orchestrated her father's death.

Following his escape from the authorities after his encounter with the Bishops, Fisk came face to face with Lopez who confronted him at gunpoint before a shot rang out.

This storyline was picked up by 2024 miniseries Echo on Disney Plus, as outlined above.

When did we last see Matt Murdock?

We also last saw Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, in the Disney Plus series Echo. In a brief appearance, teased in a clip released before the show aired, Daredevil came face to face with Maya.

Before then, Daredevil was seen in She Hulk: Attorney at Law. Cox appeared alongsideTatiana Maslany in the finale episode of the series, taking on a mission with Jennifer Walters.

He told EW at the time: "I think I'm still coming to terms with it. It still feels too good to be true. I really had put this to bed emotionally; I didn't think that this was going to happen. I literally don't have the words to describe it. I feel incredibly grateful."

It came after his surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
