6. Silence in the Library / Forest of The Dead (2008)
The enigmatic River Song (Alex Kingston) is introduced in this two-part episode, as a library is consumed by ravenous shadows.
"There's something deeply unnerving about the dark and the possibility of something that might be there which we can't see, and this two parter really plays with that notion," Sean Bassett writes. "I wouldn't walk over anybody's shadow for a week after both these episodes aired out of fear that my flesh would be eaten by the Vashta Nerada."
"It creeped me out; I barely slept at all that night," Faith Rogers recalls. "That being said, now I just enjoy them as a great two-parter and the introduction of River Song, with a wonderfully spooky story-line."
