Echo release date: Trailer and news for Marvel's Hawkeye spin-off
Alaqua Cox returns for her Hawkeye spin-off series Echo focusing on Maya Lopez.
*Warning: This article contains spoilers for Hawkeye.*
It's finally almost time for Echo, the Hawkeye spin-off coming to Disney Plus, and we can't wait!
The upcoming series, which is Marvel's first ever TV-MA rated show (expect some gritty violence!), will follow Echo/Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), the adoptive daughter of Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), after the events of Hawkeye.
As a reminder – Lopez was last seen seeking bloody revenge on Kingpin after she discovered he was involved in the death of her biological father, and the stakes are higher than ever in Echo.
We've got a stellar cast to look out for, including Charlie Cox's return as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. A recently released trailer saw Daredevil back in business, facing up to Maya – and it looks dramatic!

Echo release date: When is the Marvel show out on Disney Plus?

Due to differing time zones, the episode will be released late on Tuesday 9th for US viewers, while UK viewers will be able to watch in the early hours of Wednesday 10th.
It's the first time a Marvel series will be released all at once on the platform.

Alaqua Cox will reprise her role as Echo/Maya Lopez from Hawkeye in the new spin-off series.
On a personal level, this role is also a big deal for Cox, who is both deaf and a citizen of the Menominee Nation.
"Man, it is so extremely important," she told Screen Rant. "I'm so grateful to be able to represent in this role because, obviously, authenticity is the key, and it's so important for Native American culture to be represented in the show as well.
"I remember we partnered with the Choctaw Nation to make sure that everything that we were representing was accurate to the nation because we have so many different tribes and different cultures, and they have their own traditions as well.
"And also the deaf community as well, we cannot forget about them. So, I'm so happy to be able to represent both roles."
Meanwhile, it was also confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that Vincent D'Onofrio will reprise his role as her surrogate father, Kingpin/Wilson Fisk after their scenes in Hawkeye.
Yep, it seems Kingpin has survived his recent shot to the head, with D'Onofrio recently telling TV Line: "If you’re a fan of Kingpin and Daredevil - the old comics - you know that Kingpin never dies.
"We just had to figure out a clever way of [moving] on from that shot towards the face and how we bring it into Echo, and we came up with a really cool thing. He does get hurt pretty bad."
Are there plans to have him recur in the MCU?
He added: "Stay tuned to how this show ends and where we see him next."
Fisk's nemesis, Daredevil/Matt Murdock, will also appear in the series, with Charlie Cox reprising the role, having appeared in both Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law prior to this.
Other stars confirmed to be starring in the series include Chaske Spencer (The English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon), Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs), Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!), Graham Greene (Wind River) and Zahn McClarnon (Westworld), reprising his role as Maya's deceased father, William Lopez.
Jacobs is set to play a new character named Julie, but little is known about her role besides the name.
Despite the dramatic events of the Hawkeye season 1 finale, Fra Fee is keen to return as Maya's former friend and fellow Tracksuit Mafia member Kazimierz "Kazi" Kazimierczak, who tragically died by her hand.
He told RadioTimes.com earlier in December 2021: “I mean, are you kidding? Of course, I would love to be part of it. But my phone is on at the moment, and there hasn’t been a phone call just yet. We’ll just have to wait and see. Who knows?”
We should also not rule out cameos from fellow Hawkeye characters Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh).
What will the plot of Marvel's Echo be?
A synopsis for the series states that the series will tell "the origin story of Echo" and will revisit "Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward."
Chatting exclusively to RadioTimes.com, director Sydney Freeland explained: "This will be Marvel's first TV-MA series and a lot of that stemmed from the story, right? Like, we always knew that we wanted to tell a story that was a little more grounded, it was a little more street level, it was a little grittier.
"The question was just how gritty can we go? How grounded can we be? And one of the most interesting things about Hawkeye was the fact that Maya Lopez was a villain, and that's what really attracted me to the project.
"In conversations with Marvel, as we were talking about the character, the response was, like, 'Let's lean into that, let's see how far we can go down that rabbit hole.’ Really, as we come into the series, Maya Lopez is a villain. But the goal is not to turn her into Captain America. No, no, no. That, to me, is actually kind of boring.
"It's exploring those nuances and those dynamics and also the other thing that was exciting to explore was, how does a Deaf indigenous girl from Oklahoma become a top lieutenant in Kingpin’s army, and potentially even become a successor? Those were all things that we got to explore. And it's a really fun place to be in because it feels a little dangerous."
The series will likely continue to focus on Maya's relationship with the Kingpin and her criminal connections, even if she is attempting to forge a new destiny.

The final episode of Hawkeye saw Maya turn her back on the Tracksuit Mafia and lose her beloved best friend Kazi.
Confronting a wounded Fisk in her final scene, Maya pointed her gun at the man responsible for the death of the two most important people in her life and Fisk tried to talk his way out of it.
The camera panned upwards as we heard a shot ring out and the sound of a body dropping down. Did Maya really kill the Kingpin? It seems not considering D'Onofrio will be portraying Fisk in the series.
We will be sure to update this page as soon as official details emerge.
