Hated in the Nation
Plot summary
In near-future London, police detective Karin Parke and her tech-savvy sidekick Blue investigate a string of mysterious deaths with a sinister link to social media.
Kelly Macdonald – Karin Parke
Who does she play?
Kelly plays Karin Parke, the more seasoned one in the main police partnership in the episode. She’s a hardened cop who first approaches the mystery with cynicism.
Where have I seen her?
She played Josh Brolin’s wife in No Country for Old Men, but you may also recognise her from Trainspotting as teenager Diane (Ewan McGregor’s underage love interest in the film). Harry Potter fans will know her face from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 as the Grey Lady, the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw.
Faye Marsay – Blue
Who does she play?
Marsay plays Blue (yup, that’s actually her character name), a tech-savvy young detective who’s more enthusiastic than her detective partner Parke.
Where have I seen her?
As The Waif in Game of Thrones (the one who in season six – spoilers spoilers spoilers – stabs Ayra right in the belly). She also played Candice in Fresh Meat, Anne Neville in The White Queen, and fan-favourite Shona McCullough in the 2014 Christmas special of Doctor Who.
Benedict Wong – Shaun Li
Who does he play?
The National Crime Agency worker who helps the police in their investigations
Where have I seen him?
Wong is no stranger to sci-fi fans. He played Nasa's JPL director Bruce Ng in The Martian and ship pilot Ravel in Prometheus. You might also recognise him as Kublai Khan in Netflix's Marco Polo and in the Final Countdown episode in The IT Crowd, where he played Prime, winner of the sixteenth Countdown teapot. He'll be playing Benedict Cumberbatch's sidekick – also called Wong– in Doctor Strange.
