Inspector Morse

The curmudgeonly detective was brought to life by John Thaw but before Endeavour Morse hit our TV screens he was solving crimes in British author Colin Dexter's series of novels. Published between 1975 and 1999 the 13 novels inspired Inspector Morse, spin-off series Lewis and the latest incarnation, Endeavour, which follows the detective in his younger years.

Pride and Prejudice

It would be positively sinful to talk of TV series adapted from books without mentioning the unforgettable six-part BBC series that made Colin Firth a soaking wet sex symbol. With more than six hours of scintillating period drama it remains arguably the most beloved of all Jane Austen adaptations.

Friday Night Lights

HG Bissinger's tale of the 1988 Permian High School Panthers football team from Odessa, Texas will probably go down in American football history as one of the most popular of all time. Not only did it inspire a film, it also gave birth to two TV series. The first, Against the Grain, featured a young Ben Affleck but it was the second, Friday Night Lights, that would go on to TV success in the late 00s.

Goosebumps

A scare at bedtime was always on the cards when reading one of R.L Stine's Goosebumps tales. The children's horror novels gave many a sleepless night and were so popular that they were adapted for the small screen by Fox Kids. Goosebumps aired in over 100 countries and it was the number one rated children's TV show for three years in the United States.
