This article includes discussion of pregnancy loss and endometriosis which some readers may find upsetting.

Ruby Allen's (Louisa Lytton) secret was revealed in the latest edition of EastEnders, as her ex-husband Martin Fowler (James Bye) went through a roller coaster of emotions.

Learning that Ruby had given birth to his son two years ago, Martin was still reeling when she turned up at Stacey Slater's (Lacey Turner) house to angrily confront him over a stolen birth certificate.

The document named the child as Roman, and as Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) insisted that she had taken the paperwork, not Martin, he demanded confirmation from Ruby.

When Ruby reminded Martin that she had told him she was pregnant the day she was arrested, Martin pointed out that she had told so many lies, it was hard to know what was real and what wasn't!

Ruby admitted that yes, she and Martin did have a son, before claiming that she didn't have custody. She and the baby spent three months in a mother and baby unit, but when Ruby left prison, she gave the little boy up for adoption.

Martin was shocked, and baffled that Ruby had chosen not to raise the child after her struggles with endometriosis and her miscarriages.

Ruby branded herself a failure, then hit back that Martin was a terrible father, so the boy was better off without them.

Seeking solace at the café, Martin had a meltdown, before cousin Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and best mate Zack Hudson (James Farrar) tried to support him.

As others including Peter Beale (Thomas Law) urged Martin to search for his son, Stacey exchanged harsh words with Ruby, who left in a taxi.

Martin returned to speak to Stacey, who insisted that Ruby was acting shiftily and suggested he find out where she had gone by asking cab office owner Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).

Soon, Martin and Stacey arrived at the hospital, where they saw Ruby heading to a children's ward.

Watching Ruby tenderly kissing the sleeping head of a little boy, Martin realised that this was his son, Roman. How will he react?

Anyone affected by Ruby's story can seek support via Endometriosis UK or call the free helpline on 0808 808 2227.
