Arsenal kick off their Champions League campaign on Thursday night with a trip to last season's Europa League winners Atalanta.

The Gunners, who were knocked out of the competition at the quarter-final stage last campaign by Bayern Munich, are desperate to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time in the club's history, with Arsenal reaching one final since 1998.

Mikel Arteta guided his side to Europe's elite competition for the 2023/24 season for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign.

Arsenal will now feature in the new extended Champions League format, and they'll face the likes of PSG, Inter Milan and Monaco.

Arsenal, who are facing Atalanta for the first time, are desperate to pick up silverware this season, and they'll be hoping to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title after finishing second behind them for the last two years.

Atalanta beat Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final last season to end the German team's 51-game unbeaten run, and while they've had an average start to the campaign, Gian Piero Gasperini will be hoping his side can pull off an upset against Arsenal.
