The first Tees–Wear derby of the season looks set to be a cracker, as two teams bang in form meet at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland have won two in a row without conceding a goal, and Tuesday's stroll against Watford on home soil has last season's play-off semi-finalists sitting fourth in the table.

Middlesbrough also qualified for the play-offs in 2022/23, but were enduring a nightmare start to the current campaign before turning a corner and rattling off three wins on the spin, the latest being Tuesday's 2-0 success against Cardiff.

The hosts boast one of the Championship's deadliest players in their ranks, Jack Clarke, who has scored seven goals so far this term, and he could prove to be the difference maker.

Sunderland secured a 2-0 victory in last season's corresponding fixture but the goalscorers on that afternoon have since departed with Ross Stewart being sold to Southampton and loanee Amad Diallo returning to parent club Manchester United.
